August 25, 2023 - Chicago Circle Boatride

Leaving the Hammond Marina on the boat "Calumet Heritage" at about 9:30 am, we first headed north on the lake and then locked into the Chicago River. Past downtown, we continued on the south branch, under the Amtrak bridge, to the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal which starts at Ashland Avenue and heads southwest alongside the Stevenson Expressway. Turning left at the Cal-Sag Channel entrance with its lighthouse marker,  northeast of Lemont, we started back towards Lake Michigan. Locking through at the O'Brien Lock we entered the main channel of the Calumet River near 130th Street. Exiting the Calumet River, and back in Lake Michigan waters, the "Calumet Heritage" returned to the Hammond Marina at around 4:30 pm.
