Sweet Home South Chicago - 8/12/23

Sweet Home South Chicago brought a lively mix of music and dance, art and food, as well as local vendors and organizations, to Commercial Avenue on a lovely Saturday afternoon.

Bridges//Puentes, and other groups, distributed free school supplies to children and parents for the upcoming school year. Art center Skyart encouraged participatory painting, while artists and crafts people displayed their wares. Ballet Folklorico Yolotzin brightened up 89th Street with their colorful outfits and skillful dancing.

Sponsored by the Commercial Avenue SSA #5, the aim of the annual street festival is to uplift Commercial Avenue, once the heart of a prosperous South Chicago business district, by "bringing businesses back onto the streets, building community wealth, increasing community networking, and empowering small business owners by offering a regular space on the street."

Sweet Home South Chicago was first held in 2021.
